Personalized Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

This is a really cute idea for Valentine's Day, an anniversary or a party. It is quick, simple and way more affordable than buying chocolate dipped strawberries at around $3 a piece from gourmet chocolate shops. The best part is, it is totally customizable. Create monograms, numbers, words or even designs!

Wash and dry fresh strawberries. Make sure there is no water on the strawberries or the chocolate will seize up and ruin the smooth consistency of the chocolate.

Melt chocolate (chips or bar) in a glass bowl over a pot of simmering water or double boiler. You can alternatively use the microwave according to directions on package. Most packages of chocolate chips will also provide direction for melting the chocolate specifically for fruit dipping (usually tells you to add vegetable shortening or oil to thin the chocolate for smooth dipping). I like to use semi-sweet chocolate for my berries, but you can use candy melts, white chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate or even add flavoring oils to your melted chocolate!

Hold the strawberries at the leaves and dip into melted chocolate. Roll in chopped nuts, cookie crumbles or sprinkles. Place on wax paper and refrigerate to dry chocolate.

Note: if your leave the chocolate dipped strawberries in the fridge, condensation will form and you will have water droplets on your strawberries when you remove them from the fridge and they come back to room temperature. Add a drizzle of white chocolate on top using a fork or a plastic bag with the corner snipped off.

To create personalized letters and more either use a plastic candy chocolate mold found at most arts and crafts stores or you can find them online.

If you want to create your letters free hand, simply pipe your desired letters or shapes onto wax paper with melted chocolate in a plastic bag with the corner snipped off. Let dry in the fridge and gently peel off and apply to the tops of your strawberries with melted chocolate.
